In an attempt to conserve food, I decided to cook my somewhat mushy blackberries (those things are too expensive to waste). I added an apple (also a little mushy), cinnamon, a little almond milk….
And then I added pickled cabbage. The famous last words, right? I actually saw a recipe for this combination on Pinterest.
To be fair, the cabbage wasn’t the problem. After mixing all the ingredients together, I decided to add some almond extract.Β I’m guilty of never measuringΒ in the kitchen so I accidentally added too much extract!
So, I’ve got a bunch of cooked fruit that needs a little tweaking and reasoning. Maybe I could make it into a pie?
Any ideas on what to do with this or should I just toss it and move on to the next? π
hmm this is interesting…could you use it to top ice cream? Or in yogurt? Maybe in some oats?
Ah good idea! I could mix it into yogurt and freeze it. π
Blend it up into a smoothie with some yogurt. Everything taste better in a smoothie π
fruit crisp – add oats, flour, brown sugar combo on top and bake it. Can’t be bad! lol…and add some peanut butter to the crumb mix!
You are awesome. I would never have thought of that with my soggy blackberries.
I would probably do a fruit crisp, use it in oatmeal or make it into a smoothie. I almost never measure when I make crisps and apple blackberry and almond extract would be a good conbination.
That is a very unique concoction! haha I liked what someone said before about a fruit crisp. Or mixed in greek yogurt, really you could do anything with it!
I have to admit that you completely lost me at pickled cabbage π But yeah, too much extract can definitely be a problem… especially almond, since it’s so strong. I’d definitely try to turn it into a pie. You could even try adding some store bought unsweetened pie filling or even more fruit just to try and balance out the tastes a bit.
Haha I totally understand- I’m not quite sure what I was thinking. If it’s on Pinterest, it must be great, right?? π
Hahahahahaha I am like you I HATE to wast food, but sometimes ya just gotta call it and throw in the towel
Maybe a pie? Or some turnovers? Or a crisp with an oatmeal streusel topping?
One word: Sangria. You’re welcome. π
Genuis! I’ll let you know how it turns out π
Ugh, too much almond extract is pretty hard to overcome π¦ But I like the suggestions of using it to top oatmeal–or maybe yogurt.
I agree with Carrie! Sangria!!
Too much almond extract has been my downfall before!!!
Definitely an interesting combination…everything looks so good on pinterest though! I like the fruit crisp idea, or maybe try a buckle or cobbler recipe. A nice doughy crust might help “absorb” some of the intense flavours π
I know others have said it already, but definitely try the yogurt mess. Or you could even make it into a fruity quesadilla π
I would add more fruit and definitely make it into a pie or something!
Maybe you could add a bunch more fruit to dilute the extract’s flavors? Or maybe add something really bland to tone it down? Oatmeal?
Oooh my vote is def make it into a pie! I love pies! That fruit looks so delicious!
