Don’t Ever Stop

In honor of What I Ate Wednesday, here are some shots of what I’ve been lucky enough to nibble on inhale.

Layered salads delicately decorated in feta, avocado, roma tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, grilled chicken, flakey salmon, crunchy pita chips, and tossed in a silky vinaigrette.

Belly Dancer Salad

Compliments of the talented chefs at Basil, I dove into the salad above for dinner tonight. It’s coined the Belly Dancer. Perhaps it’s a salad fit for dancers. The artfully tossed dish certainly left me in the mood to dance.

You can learn a lot from shooting pictures of food, like the more you’re around it, the more you want it. And it’s always sinful to skip dessert.

There were bites of tiramisu yesterday and baklava today. You know my sweet tooth can’t be tamed.

Layers of crispy fillo dough and sweetened pistachios. Irresistible.

I have one hell of a sweet tooth, but I’ll take that over a lot of other things.

Thank goodness for that gym flo and constantly challenging myself.

I’m embracing the handstand journey just as I’ll continue trying to make grape leaves look mouth watering in photos. Persistence is the name of my game.

Late Monday Marvelous

They say gratitude is a major key to happiness, so on the first day of the week, I like to start out with the positives and link up with Marvelous Monday.

Marvelous is lunch at Cafe Espresso with my mom last week.

Marvelous is a healthy breakfast followed by a not so healthy visit to the candy store, but at least ice skating happened in between!

A Cooking Class in Richmond

I attended a Debi Shawcross cooking class in Richmond on Wednesday night with my mom.

It was fun sitting in Debi’s kitchen as she prepared the four course meal we had for dinner and learning different tricks of the trade, like using the right olive oil or red wine for pasta sauce.

We noshed on focaccia bread and chili dipping oil for appetizers.

The chili dip had a nice kick to it. My mom and I love spicy so we were pleased. 🙂

After the appetizers, we watched her prepare the salad, entree and dessert. I especially enjoyed her salad dressing recipe.

She prepared a house salad with blue cheese and prosciutto; pasta with pancetta, pork and garlic wine sauce; and a citrus and chocolate slice of pie (my favorite of course).

Overall, the night was filled with delicious food, good conversation and lots of cooking tips. Thanks Mom for the invite!

Unfortunately though, restaurants often have bigger portions, that contain higher levels of sodium and fat. All that delicious flavor comes with a price.

To fight off the extra calories, I try to always squeeze in a workout, even on a busy day.

If you’re having trouble motivating yourself to get moving, here are 5 tips from Glamour magazine:

  1. Tell yourself, “I only have to work out for 7 minutes.”
  2. Listen to your exercise playlist before exercising.
  3. Work out with someone who is 40% more fit than you are.
  4. Schedule it into your calendar.
  5. Stop debating the damn workout and just go.
