Tea Time

Are you a tea drinker?

When it comes to liquids, I’m pretty much just a water and alcohol drinker.

This morning, however I was feeling pretty sleepy so I decided to try a little caffeine.

Black tea with almond milk + honey

I used black tea that one of my best friends brought back from England, so I made sure to hold out my pinky out in between sips. 😉

Jumping topics a bit, here are two ways to eat comfort foods healthily:

Mac n Cheese with veggies

Mac n Cheese with mixed veggies

The mac n cheese has whole grain pasta with cauliflower, almond milk, hot sauce, salts and peppers, and of course, cheddar cheese.

No butter. No oil. No white pasta.

Nachos with veggies

I had Tostitos chips with grated cheddar cheese served along side caramelized onions and my veggie mix (spinach, carrots and corn).

Who says your childhood favorites aren’t healthy? 😀

And on a more grownup level, I made a big pot of quinoa and veggies for the week.

As a kid I would have run from this delicious mix!

As a kid, I would have run from this delicious mix!

The additions were corn, black beans, onion, soy sauce, peanut Thai sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic. I was out of broccoli and other greens so I decided to use arugula and random other lettuce leaves to pump up the health factor.

Have a Thankful Tuesday!

Questions: If you’re a tea drinker, how do you take it?

What foods do you eat now that you never would touch when you were younger?

  1. I could go for nachos right about now… nothing like melted cheese!

  2. Oh my gosh…haven’t had nachos in ages! I’m definitely due.

I love tea! I *try* to have a green tea at my desk every day after lunch, but I usually forget. Thank you for the reminder! I take it straight, without frills.

When I was younger, I didn’t like minty things or spicy things. Not anymore 🙂

  3. Mmm love quinoa and veg. And hahaha I’m a water and alcohol drinker too. Although I drink coffee every morning (Addicted… oops.. one cup aint bad though!) and tea every once in a while. I definitely like to drink tea before bed though, never in the morning really.

  4. I have never thought of tea w/ almond milk before! Genius idea 🙂 I absolutely love chai tea with honey in the afternoons!

  5. Caitlyn says:

actually never tried tea. i just developed the ability to actually enjoy (and finish!) coffee so maybe tea is next. 🙂 mmm nachos, i could scarf those down any time.

  6. Adore tea! I seriously drink like… 3 or 4 cups of it a day, and it can go all the way up to 8 cups when it’s cold outside. That being said, it’s not always caffeinated (I love a good peppermint or camomile tea), but my absolute favorite is one called Hot Cinnamon Spice from Harney & Sons. Best.tea.ever.

  7. I’m not a tea drinker, during the winter I’ll have hot chocolate some mornings. As a kid I hated tomatoes but I love them in tacos, burgers, salads now=)

  8. I’m like you, mostly water and some alcohol haha. I don’t know why, but I’ve never gotten into drinking coffee or tea. But every once in a while, especially in the winter, I LOVE a nice steaming mug of hot chocolate!

  9. Erin says:

I’m actually not a tea drinker- Before I got pregnant I used to drink unsweet tea when I would eat out at restaurants, but I’ve lost my taste for it!

  10. Cindy says:

Depends what kind of tea I’m drinking…Earl grey with milk, green tea with honey, black tea plain. Pinkie is always out. lol

  11. deniliese says:

    that quinoa looks FANTASTIC!
I love green tea with a little bit of lemon squeezed in

  12. I absolutely adore chai tea, but I’m a coffee drinker through and through. A little over a week ago when I made my quinoa stuffed peppers, I put the remaining black beans, quinoa, some onions, and the rest of the broccoli slaw in a big pot and heated it up for a few leftover lunches and it was wonderful!

  13. jumpeatrun says:

I rarely drink tea, but I usually like the fruitier ones and even better when iced!

  14. Amanda says:

I’m ridiculous about having my tea in the morning. I love green tea and Earl Grey, and I like chai but don’t drink it too often.

  15. Anne @ CandyCrazedrun.wordpress.com says:

I wish I was more of a tea drinker. It’s so darn good for you! My mom drinks it like its going out of style and I need to copy her!

  16. cookingfortheotherhalf says:

I typically prefer coffee to tea, but every once in a while I’m in the mood for tea! I like black tea with lemon.

  17. Allie says:

I am beyond obsessed with tea–I don’t really want to admit how many cups I drink a day (but mostly because I have no idea, other than A LOT). And I wouldn’t touch broccoli as a kid, but now I love it–especially mixed in with a good bowl of pasta and cheese 😉

  18. Carrie says:

Tea is a sometime beverage for me. I drink it much more during the cold, winter months. Cinnamon is my favorite!

  19. katiemoves says:

I enjoy green tea and some kinds I’ve tried from teavana, and pineapple and blueberry bliss kind which is SO good. I’ve never been a fan of black tea although I have tried! I eat peppers and spinach that I would have never touched as a kid lol

  20. I get my caffeine kick from coffee, but I also love green tea. My favorite is putting 1 bag of green tea and 1 bag of peppermint tea in my steamy cup. Yummm 🙂

  21. The only time I really drink hot tea is at my favorite Chinese restaurant and I love it! I am all about sweet tea in the summer!

  22. mj says:

If you are afraid of tea, go for licorice tea. It is divine! And rather sweet tasting. And smells delicious. Can you tell I love it? 🙂

  23. I love tea. We have a shelf in the kitchen dedicated to all my teas. I only add lemon and honey if I have a sore throat, otherwise I’ll take it straight up.
Good job putting that pinky up like a tea drinking professional!

  24. I love tea! I didn’t used to, but now it’s the perfect thing to keep me satisfied at night, without lots of snacking!

  25. Those nachos look awesome! Adding veggies certainly makes everything better! 🙂

  26. Joy says:

I love ice tea, but us Seattleites are coffee drinkers all the way. Your quinoa veggie mix looks amazing!

  30. Meredith says:

I love your idea of nachos with veggies on the side, looks like it would be yummy to use the chips to scoop the veggies up! I love tea, all I need is a little bit of milk and sometimes some sweetner.

  31. I love peppermint or English breakfast tea! Almond milk and honey sounds like great add-ins.

Great recreations of your childhood favorites. Nachos and macaroni and cheese were some of my favorites too.
