Persistently Consistent

Stick it, come on you can do this, pull tight.

handstand practice

I was practicing handstands before yoga class today when I noticed how easy it is to jump to the next goal. I spent weeks mastering my headstand, only to quickly jump to my new goal of solidifying my handstand.

It’s important to think about how far we’ve come, not how far we still have to go.

Who knew persistence could be a pain?

As a kid, I remember being persistent in my quest to have fun. That little kid is still very much alive and a part of who I am today.

happy in the snow

Persistent enough to force that giant sled down the little icy hills of Charlottesville.

snow time fun

A snow day was much appreciated on Monday as I persistently chased that well-known childhood high.

snowtime cheer

After an adventurous snow day of sledding, plowing through trails and attempting to throw snowballs, it was time to shed some layers and hop back on the work wagon come Tuesday.

back to work from snow day

First, I had tasks for my summer road trip after our big benefit on Sunday evening.

Hours of work were tucked away and then it was off to the gym for yoga and cardio, but not before I snapped several shots of some savory creations.

Monday is for Martin

Happy MLK day. Hopefully you get the day off or a low-key day. 🙂

MLK quote

Let’s jump into Marvelous Monday.

Marvelous is a chocolate fortune and a healthy dinner on Friday night. That orange was on point.

Workout Classes

Since I started working for myself, I’m fortunate to have a lot more time on my hands. More time means more fun in the gym. I know that sounds ridiculous, but workout classes can be exciting.

Can you spot me? I’m wearing  a light purple top. 🙂

Body Step was a high intensity dance party. They even had door prices and snacks (well, more like a bowl of granola bars, but whatever works).

fiber one bar

We worked all the major muscle groups through a blend of cardio moves. The sweat was flyin’!

Later this afternoon, I hit up a Gentle Hatha Yoga class, which was incredible.

I Joined the Gym

I finally made the decision to join a gym! Honestly, I’m not sure what took me so long because I love attending classes and having all the equipment that a big gym facility offers. I’m currently hooked on the athletic conditioning classes. The instructor has us moving through different exercises non-stop and I’m so sweaty afterwards. I was on a true exercise high this morning.

I’m looking forward to trying out some of the other classes at my gym like zumba, pilates, cycle, and some dance classes. I’m committing to the gym and improving my strength. And with that, more healthy meals.

Breakfast for a champion

Breakfast always tastes so good after a workout

Last night I made the healthiest alternative to pasta. I found this recipe on Pinterest for broccoli slaw pasta and had to try it.

Looks just like pasta, tastes like pasta

I heated the pan and cooked the broccoli slaw with 1/4 cup of water for a little over 5 minutes. Next I added canned tomatoes plus a little chicken broth. Finally, I topped it all with pepper, red pepper flakes, garlic salt, and cheese.

Veggie Sketti

I was surprised how well this recipe turned out. I’m definitely going to recreate this meal again and maybe add a healthy version of Alfredo sauce.

Have a great Thursday!

What’s your favorite workout class?
